It has taken me a long time to be able to express my feelings upon with Nancy’s passing. She was such a dear friend, who was such a bright light in the world; as reflected in her kind, generous, and uplifting spirit. Which was also woven with with a deep, life-long love of exploring, adventure, and everything associated with the natural world. She also embodied gifted excellence in her professional and leadership roles at Yale, as reflected in the many accolades posted by her colleagues in these shared remembrances. I am so grateful for her friendship, for our shared adventures together, and to have enjoyed her wonderful company over many years. She will be deeply missed! My condolences to Lionel and to Nancy’s extended family for their lost and wish them healing and much support and love in the days ahead as they mourn her passing and celebrate her exceptional life.

Nancy’s courageous, generous, upbeat nature has been a joy and an inspiration to me for fifty years, since freshman year of high school. She was gifted with a rare aptitude for self-discipline combined with an irrepressible freedom of spirit. I wish I were looking forward to having her in my life for another 50 years.

My heart goes out to her husband Lionel, who made such a happy life and home with Nancy over the decades and who so lovingly and selflessly cared for her in her final illness; to Nancy’s loving brother Tony and sister-in-law Lynn; and all the rest of the extended family. Nancy loved and treasured you all, and I know you loved her very much. May her memory be a blessing to every one of you always.

My wife Tulle Frazer and I knew “Suchie” in the early 1980’s when she lived in Vermont. On the shelf above my desk stands a photo of Nancy and Tulle after a whitewater canoe outing. They are dancing in baggy rain suits, perched atop the watertight plastic pails that held our lunch and spare clothes. In the photo Nancy’s infectious smile and playful “bucket ballet” gesture embodies her warm spirit mentioned so often below. We have been enriched by her life.

Laughing, smiling, encouraging, challenging, Nancy brought out the very best in those who collaborated with her. I will always cherish the memories of working together with her and other teammates to explore how parent-child bonds can be fortified under the heavy weights of poverty and addiction. Thank you, Nancy, for your kindness and your beautiful, generous, calm spirit. It is a blessing and a privilege to have been mentored by you.

My dear friend Nancy was such a wonderful shining light in this world. We will all miss her terribly, and she is most definitely leaving this world way too soon. Her work was so important – always looking for a better life for others. And as a friend, she showed the same caring nature. She was kind and generous, fun and funny, adventurous, tenacious and talented. I first met her when I was 15 at our summer camp and then for another 10 years enjoyed spending time with her, much of that playing guitars and singing together. We drifted apart for many years, but gratefully reconnected 10 years ago, which was awesome. Seeing her in the fullness of her career, going on hikes in Sleeping Giant and Maine, and meeting her delightful life partner Lionel was so wonderful. I will always remember her fondly.

The next stage for Nancy must be a beautiful one for she was and is a beautiful soul. Her youthful view of life helped her live it to the fullest, and most especially with love and vibrancy. She is blessed to have such a love as she has in Lionel and her bright energy no doubt not only carried her through this challenging time but also him as well. Love to you both and to all whom have been touched by her light.
