A friend, neighbor, brilliant, witty, congenial. He gave me books to read, made sure I read them, and then he would have wonderful discussions about them. Our Woodmont neighborhood will miss him (and Ursula) dearly.

The Sports Scene at 6:15 on WELI, AM 960. My mother, Martha, always let me know that Joel was her cousin! And then I learned that he was the manager of The Academics! Sue and I were sorry to hear of his passing. May his memory be for a blessing.

Very sorry to hear of Joel’s passing. His passion for sports — particularly local sports — was extraordinary. His articles illuminated many of the forgotten stories from New Haven’s past. He will be missed.
