In memory of the only man in the world who could have got me up on waterskis. What a kind, inventive, patient, and loving man. His humor and rich hold on life is so clear in my mind. He and Linda were exemplary parents and fascinating partners in life. Reading his history made his accomplishments and fearless vigor clear- and why his students, family, and friends loved him so.
I know Fred-Air is still up in there over us, taking rye notes, and showering down grace. Love to all??

Linda he will be hugely missed. He was one of the reasons I chose Yale Int Med Residency Program as I did an elective with him as I told you when I was a student. Just made education fun. Fred opened up questions in a discussion as few others did because he thought about the disease process from all sides.

Dear Linda

We had so many wonderful moments with you and Fred, from the late 1980s when Fred led the way on the Lyme disease vaccine, to our dinner with both of you at Kathy’s retirement just a few months ago. I sorely miss dropping into his office regularly, and unexpectedly, to learn more and more about medicine and science. He was a treasure to all of us, and touched our lives in many different ways.

With sadness and admiration

Erol and Margaret.

Dear Linda, Michael, Karen, and Ted,
I am saddened to learn of Fred’s passing. I always looked forward to seeing him at extended family events over the years and recall fondly spending the day with him and Linda (and Emma) in Paris among other occasions. I appreciated the importance he placed on larger family benchmark events, and we still have a couple “Fred Kantor famous sour pickles for your health” t-shirts from one a while back. My father will be saddened as well as he has maintained great confidence in Fred’s authoritative knowledge on many subjects medical and non-medical, including aviation safety practices which he asked him about recently.
May his memory be a blessing.
Love Eric, Ilana, Shawn, and Maury Lisann

This afternoon, we received heartbreaking news. My mentor, colleague, and role model, Dr. Kantor – the man who hugely shaped my view on life, work, and many other things – passed away. Dr. Kantor was a very special and irreplaceable person with a huge heart for everyone. He was a great physician, teacher, mentor and colleague and was well respected by all who knew him. It was my honor to have been trained by and to have worked with Dr. Kantor. He will be deeply missed by all. Our deepest condolences to Linda and family during this difficult time.

Our heartfelt sympathies to Linda and the family.
We have lost a true friend and shall always cherish his memory. He was the truest example to all in academe. His life sent out a clear message, that eminence achieved in the academic domain is no excuse for arrogance in the way one lives one’s life. His life was the finest example of the perfect blend of eminence and humility. We shall remember him all the days of our lives. There was but one Fred Kantor, whence comes such another?

I worked as Fred’s administrator for almost 20 years. He was a lovely, interesting man. He made going to work every day something to look forward to. Even though I have not seen him in a number of years, I will miss him. I am very sorry for your loss.

Dear Linda,
I am so sorry to learn of Fred’s passing. He was such a presence in my life from the time I was a graduate student and he was one of the few immunologists at Yale to our times at the Koerner center. I have such fond memories of him and you- I remember a time we flew paper airplanes from Herb Lubs’ balcony! and other more serious immunology discussions.
My love to you and your family

To Linda and the Kantor family,
We are saddened to hear of Fred’s death. Fred was a longtime colleague and mentor for me, particularly in my early years on the faculty (late 1970s) when his guidance and advice helped shape my career. Fred and Linda were for decades dear friends. We will miss Fred’s openness, integrity, humor and clear understanding of right and wrong. We’ll always think fondly of the many parties and gatherings the Kantors sponsored, and Fred’s ever-giving personality.

Dear Linda and the Kantor Famiy,
We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family on the loss of Fred. With sincere gratitude we remember his constant presence in our lives and those of so many others at Yale. There has never been a time during our own careers when he was not there to offer support, guidance, perspective and mentorship. Dear Kantor family,
I wish to extend my most sincere condolences to you. Simply state, Fred was a giant in his field and even more important to the community of Yale. He influenced so may people at all levels of training, including senior physicians. Personally, I learned and benefitted from his knowledge and friendship as a young physician that continued as I moved along in my career. He has inspired so many and will be sorely missed. Dear Kantor family,
My sincere condolences for you loss. Few people I have known in my life have had such a profound effect on generations of student doctors and fully trained physicians. He shaped our view of our profession, ourselves and of our responsibility to those we are all here to serve – our patients. He was simply a marvelous man and an even greater teacher and role model. Thank you for sharing him with all of us for so many years.

We are very sad to hear about Fred’s passing. I always thought of Fred as ageless—not young, but never getting old and always having an interesting story to tell. The last time I saw him was at my mom’s (Irene’s) funeral four years ago and he kept us amused with his account of restoring a set of master and slave clocks at Yale. We send our love and sympathy to all of you. We’ll miss him!

He was truly a Mench. A great friend, colleague, and teacher. He will be deeply missed by all. Our thoughts and our prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.
