I am so sorry for the loss of a Gershman patriarch , a best friend and hero to his children and a pillar in the community who served his country with the same love , respect and dignity he gave his family .

Ruthie, Ronnie and Lee,
Heartfelt prayers for you on the passing of one of the pillars of our family, Uncle Tim. Tim and Ruth have always represented for me the meaning of unconditional love. When I stayed at The Gershman Home, I was a member of the family, neither more nor less. Same love, same rules. Tim was a kind and gentle man with a backbone of steel that appeared when needed. As I’ve gotten older, I have understood the profound respect my father had for Timmy; Harold always told me that he trusted Tim completely because he was a moral man who respected both himself and others equally. To me, Uncle Tim was funny, fun-loving and always young-at-heart. Just a few years ago, Tracy and I went to the casino with Tim and Ruth. Tim drove – well – and like a kid with a new Chevy Nova. He tapped the steering wheel to the rhythm of the music playing on the radio. He was enjoying himself immensely as the trees and granite boulders lining the Connecticut highway whizzed by. I will miss Tim, as I have my other New Haven Uncles and Aunts. They will always live on in my heart and in the memories I have of them.

Dear Aunt Ruthie, Ronnie & Lee:

I am thinking of all of you today. Uncle Timmy sent me his small book about his life on board the USS Missouri and will pass it on to Susie. He was so proud of what he accomplished as I’m sure all of you were. I feel very bad for Aunt Ruthie and you guys. Our family seems to be losing all of the elders. Hugs for Aunt Ruthie. All of the cousins should try to keep in touch with each other. Harriet Most Yelon
