How lucky for me at a Harvard Club function to find the only empty seat next to Andy. We immediately hit it off, and I left dinner nearly floating with the energy, enthusiasm and ideas he so passionately conveyed. Our friendship for the next couple of years was brief but impactful. He always had a smile, a tenacious spirit, a ferocious desire to challenge and upset the status quo. “No” didn’t seem to be part of his vocabulary. Every idea was big and powerful and doable. I feel blessed to have known him and circle a bit in his aura. New Haven was lucky to have him, and I hope his fervent belief in the power of arts and tourism continues to inspire those to execute his positive legacy of change.

Andy was one of my pillars when we were attending Trinity College in Hartford together beginning in 1969. He always had a warm embrace, encouragement, and friendship to offer whenever I spent time with him. He was a tremendous man with a big gorgeous heart. I was so sorry to hear this sad news today from another of our fellow-Trinity friends. Many of us will miss him tremendously. I send my deepest sympathy to Andy’s family.

What a major loss to New Haven, family and friends and myself. Andy was a one-of-a-kind cultural Icon! I absolutely loved working with him. He exuded class, warmth, caring and professionalism. His infectious smile, upbeat attitude and humor lifted anyone’s day. His cultural awareness helped beautify this city. New Haven has just lost a bit of its sparkle and i will never again receive such alliterative emails. Andy, you will be missed my friend but never forgotten.

Dear Jimmy,Jan and Family,
I was so sad to hear of Andy’s passing. It was always a pleasure to be with Andy growing up with my brother Gary Lazaroff, to our adult conversations when he returned to Ct from Ca. Andy was such a sweet personable guy! May his name be for a blessing. My heartfelt condolences to all. I hope the good memories will surround you with comfort.
Love,
Lynne
